Dark Energy by phantastes Dark Energy by phantastes
I wonder what the expanding universe would look like if dark energy were to be visible to the eyes. Would it resemble a volcanic eruption? :p

Wow! You ask a very intersting question.

The thing is that we don't really know what dark energy is. We have a few ideas of what it could be but most of these ideas have problems (my favourite is the vaccum energy. "The biggest magnitude error in the history of physics.").

I like your idea of a volcanic eruption though. The only thing is that the stuff thrown out of the volcano will get faster as it gets farther from the volcano.

Thanks so much! This sort of idea floats to me once in a blue moon, aided by the draft set forth by the great Epicurus  In reality, we are limited by our 3D perspective (think Flatworld) Perhaps we may never know the answers. Perhaps the gods living in higher dimensions can enlighten us though my wish is like a prayer of the foolish :)

4D perspective actually (physicists think in terms of 4 or more dimensions :P).

But I see what you mean. We are trying to figure out the answers to these questions though. We may get there one day.

Yes, its true thanks to Einstein. In the art world however there's the 2D, 2.5D and 3D because that's how we see things :D

I think its a matter of how much we interpret things. Certainly Newton's laws are not wrong, just limited by scale. Similarly gravity pull has been postulated by Lisa Randall to have an extradimensional origin. Whether right or wrong, nobody can prove at this moment. So we depend on our imagination, going back to Einstein's saying.

Its an exciting field to study I guess esp with the discovery of exoplanets and a recent solar system.

Wonderful job. This looks amazing.

And I am not sure. I tend to imagine "Dark energy" as much like gas particles, always zipping around.

Great piece.

ThanK YoU  :sun: By default, dark energy is a name given by the scientists who discovered that the universe is expanding at a rapid pace. Nobody yet knows the form it takes....which leaves room for the imagination ;)
