This journal entry is just a simple introduction to my art life:
Traditional art was and still is my lifelong passion. I was doing watercolor and other mediums plus a dabble or two with digital art but oil painting stands out as the queen of art. No offence to other mediums but in my opinion, it really stands out! Oil may be messy but I find as much joy cleaning the brushes as in the painting itself. Not to mention you need a well ventilated room unless you want to risk getting inflammatory lung condition from inhaling too much thinners!
However, lately, as you all know, I have found a new love - photomanipulation. I will be doing more with this platform as a way to diversify my visual art repertoire. It is certainly easier now to compose images that are more 'believable' than I could ever have done using traditional media, although I will still be doing oil painting every now and then. Finally, please click on any image you like for more details.

I hope you're using turpenoid odorless thinner and not turpentine which is traditionally used. anyway, I agree about the oils, stand out more...have a richness to them no other media does. my favorite thing with them is how soft misty effects can be created and it's easy to fix things since they take forever to dry. photomanipulation is another great form, the possibilites are endless and as you said, can create a more "believable" final image or go the opposite and create something totally unbelievable....with a special combination of images to make something truly magical. anyway, happy painting to you!
I can see that you're using the same technique as I do Your mountains are master-class! I try to minimize the use of thinner whenever I can. I'll use it only for elements like branches and twigs to get the flow. Otherwise, for the underpainting, I'll use a small portion of linseed stand oil mixed with titanium white. It blends very well, stays wet for another morning or two and smells great! I hope to do some digital landscape painting soon using 'natural brushes' media to try to imitate my oils. If I like what I do, I may just migrate to digital but I'll return to painting on real canvas every now and then just so I don't lose touch. And, happy painting to you, too!
